Dravid resigns as Captain


Rahul Dravid has decided to step down as the skipper of the Indian team.Dravid, who is the captain of both the Test and One-Day team, met Board of Control for Cricket in India President Sharad Pawar in New Delhi on September 13, 2007, and expressed his desire to step down as the captain of the Indian team.

Dravid requested that he should not be considered for the job from the upcoming Australia series. He further assured that he would extend his full co-operation to his successor and contribute as a batsman and a senior player.

The BCCI has accepted his decision. "Dravid met the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sharad Pawar at Delhi on Thursday during the working committee meeting and expressed his desire to step down as the Captain of the Indian Team and requested that he should not be considered for the job from the ensuing Australia series," a release from BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah said.

"The Karnataka batsman further assured that he would extend his full co-operation to his successor and contribute as a batsman and a senior player. Rahul Dravid wanted to concentrate on his game and did not want to take the additional pressure of leading the side," the release said.

Sharad Pawar said that Dravid told him that captaincy was affecting his (Dravid's) batting.
